SNK Playmore’s handheld wonder is getting some nifty pre-order love over at online retailers Amazon and GameStop. Consumers who pre-order the Limited Edition (which comes packed with some nice bonuses that turn the handheld into a home console) will get a FREE game card (the 1996 beat ’em up, NINJA MASTER’S*) with their order when the new portable ships out on December 6, 2012. As I’ve been saying for months now, for a dedicated console with a fairly large library of classics (more of which will be made available after the system launches), that $199.99 isn’t a lot at all considering you also get 20 free classic NEOGEO titles you can play on the road using the X as a dedicated portable or at home with the dock included in the LE box.
Poking around on GameStop, it seems that additional controllers (modeled after the original AES controllers) will be available at launch for $49.99. Check out the gallery below, check out your currently available funds and check out at Amazon or GameStop if this is something you’ve got your eyes on. While they’re not taking pre-orders, online retailers Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, Best Buy and the AAFES will also stock the X soon. If you’ve got a diehard NEOGEO fanatic on your holiday gift list, this will certainly make him or her jump up and down with glee.
*Yeah, yeah, SNK spelled NINJA MASTER’S incorrectly (that apostrophe doesn’t even belong there!), but we still love them for it anyway…

“The apostrophe in Ninja Master’s refers to the kanji in the title which (roughly) translates translates to: “The Book of Ninja Skills Belonging to the Emperor””

Aha! Well, that WOULD be too long a title to fit on that card, but still… it’s a terrible way to shortcut that spelling. It’s also odd because grammatical stuff like that is usually tweaked for English speaking audiences. I just chalked it up to another funky misspelling like SAMURAI SHODOWN has always had had… Oh well. You learn something new every day! Thanks for that comment.
