So. That’s the view outside living room my window here today. There’s about oh, 4 or so inches of snow on the ground and it’s still coming down. It’s not that bad out, but considering I woke up still not completely over my yucky throat stuff, I wasn’t looking forward to heading outside. After some medication, a bowl of soup and yeah, yeah, a cup of coffee to kick me in the pants, I was still feeling a bit out of sorts.
And then the intercom rang, buzzing me out of my haze. Who the heck could it be on such a lousy day? Fed Ex? Hmmm. The Rolodex inside my fuzzy head started spinning as I wondered what was coming up in the elevator. I wasn’t expecting any games, I just got a nice movie delivery from MVD and any other surprises I couldn’t quite think of in my somewhat toady condition. It’s a good thing my memory wasn’t working correctly, folks…
As soon as the Fed Ex driver popped up in the elevator and I saw the Donsuemor logo on the box, my brain did a nice happy spin around in my head. Aha. A few weeks back I’d gotten an email from someone at the company about taking some of their Nonnettes for a spin for an article and I agreed. Hey, who’d pass up a sampling of delicious tiny cakes perfect for sharing with guests over for tea? I’d never had a Nonnette before (No? No Nonnete!), but having been to France twice, I certainly had my share of memorable “just one more bite” treats.
As you can see, that’s a nice selection of Nonnettes in that box. Six Meyer Lemon, two each Peppermint Bark and Vanilla Bean to be exact. Resisting the temptation to swallow the entire box whole, I settled for a Peppermint Bark Nonnette with a cup of tea and was transported back about 20 years to some nameless cafe in Paris, sitting outside people-watching with a hot beverage and little pastry. Did you know that Parisians are some of the nicest people you’ll meet? Walk into a shop in France and you’re greeted as if you’re an old friend. Walk out after a purchase and you’re welcomed back enthusiastically.
Hey, I’m a New Yorker used to shop folk grunting and pointing, so that sort of treatment was surprising back then, but memorable now. Anyway, my yucky throat and fuzzy head felt much clearer when I got the box and now I’m ready to face the stupid snow outside as I head out to see if I can get some work done on a speedier wi-fi connection. Now, about the rest of those Nonnettes? Well, it looks as if I’ll need to put a kettle on and see if there’s anyone out there close by who might need a little lift in all this lousy weather.
I’d imagine right about now you may want to say “Yes!, Yes!” to some Nonnettes, but you’ll need to track them down using this handy locator, as I didn’t see them in the Donsuemor online shop. Poking around the internet reveals the Vanilla Bean and Meyer Lemon Nonnettes can be found at selected retail outlets now while Peppermint Bark Nonnettes will be available around September 2015. You can (and should) however, buy more Madelines than you can count as well as some very tasty looking French Almond Cakes
that are begging to be dipped in your favorite coffee or tea.
Now, if you’ll pardon me, I need to pop out of here before those Nonnettes parked safely in the fridge start calling me again. That make the cutest little squeaking sounds under that plastic wrapper, you know…
