Orphan Black Season One: I Hope Tatiana Maslany Has A Lot of Shelf Space…

If you missed out on BBC America’s incredible sci-fi drama series Orphan Black because you were unsure about whether or not it would be any good, go find out how to (legally) check this show out and prepare to be amazed. Maslany’s portrayal of (so far) seven different cloned characters is amazing, especially in scenes she shares with herself (through some excellent CG effects and body doubling). It’s not just the different hairstyles, wigs and makeup either. Each of the clones has a separate personality and life which the actress does a remarkable job of portraying to perfection.

It also helps that the rest of the cast is great and the plots are packed with surprises galore to the point that the final episode was a knockout of surprise reveals (and a few shocking demises) that left things wide open for an even better second season. Which is a good thing, as one is coming next year (well, it’s not THAT long a wait, right?) and we’ll see what’s going on and if a certain crazy one survived after causing much chaos throughout the season.

Anyway, I smell Emmy calling… or multiple Emmys and other awards for Maslany’s work here, and if she doesn’t win or even get nominated, the fix is in somewhere. Not that I give a rat’s ass about awards or awards shows, mind you – it’s just that all that hard work NEEDS to be seen, appreciated and rewarded by whatever means necessary.
