Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Trailer: Give PlatinumGames Some Respect, Please!

Sure, the big, fat secret game Platinum was working on (despite denial to the contrary) is indeed Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and sure enough, the floodgates of Hell have opened with some MGS fans (and professional Raiden haters) getting all up in arms about the trailer for a few crazy reasons. Most of these are at best unfair (as not one of these people griping has actually played the game) unless they have a time machine) and at worst, insane (you can’t apply ANY actual rules of “reality” to ANY Metal Gear game if you think about it). Anyway, I plan to wait with bated breath until Konami jets into NYC with a playable demo at some point so I can draw my own conclusions after some play time. Since MGS on the PS1, Metal Gear games always have had the most interesting (and sometimes controversially crazy) trailers around partly because they’re so strange and partly because of all the frame by frame over-speculation that goes on as fans study and dissect them for any bits of info. I like what I see a lot, although I’ll admit that Revengeance made me think of the old Sega CD game Revengers of Vengence (known as Battle Fantasy in Japan). Of course, this will be a LOT better than that old game by far.I’d imagine we’ll see a few more trailers over the coming months that show more of the gameplay as well as some new characters, but the link above also can help fill in a few blanks if you’re interested.

Anyway, memo to the haters on parade: cut PlatinumGames some slack here, maybe go play some of their games you missed and show some respect for these guys. They’re working HARD on this game and hell, Kojima has given them his seal of approval all the way. Don’t knock their talent unless you’re making a better game and try to learn to appreciate what they’re bringing to the table as opposed to wanting the same old stuff with each new MG game. I’m sure Snake will be back at some point in something, but for no – this is Raiden’s show.
