The New James Bond Film Is Called Skyfall. Get Over It (It’ll Be Fine Even If You Hate The Name).

Hmmmm.  I’ve been a Bond Fan since the Sean Connery days and have seen all the film numerous times. They’re not ALL great and some haven’t aged well, but not all of us are blessed with great genes, right?  My take on the fuss over the title: Skyfall is FAR from the worst title in the franchise’s long history. Octopussy and Moonraker still make my eyes roll far back in my head, The Man With The Golden Gun was a wee bit TOO descriptive and then there’s The Living Daylights. Whatever. Besides, didn’t some of these same ranters go ape over Quantum of Solace when IT was announced as the last Bond film title? Ah well, the whiny fan saga continues. If this logo I swiped off the Internet (wait, I’m still ON the Internet. Never mind) is true, November 7, 2012 seems to be the targeted release somewhere in the free world. As for a game, I’d rather not see one in such a short time unless it’s been in the works before the film. That and I’m torn on what I’d like to play – a first person experience in the vein of Eurocom’s fantastic GoldenEye: Reloaded, or a third-person action adventure similar to the sadly underrated Blood Stone? Perhaps a mixture of both would work (shaken, not stirred)…

As for the plot – here’s MGM’s official info:

In SKYFALL, Bond’s loyalty to M (Dench) is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

It looks as if the storyline started up in Casino Royale and continued in Quantum of Solace is getting the heave-ho this time out, but I’d imagine the writers (the same team that did Casino Royale and Quantum) aren’t going to completely leave out a reference to the two earlier films. Director Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Road to Perdition, Jarhead) will no doubt add his unique style to the film, but I wouldn’t expect this one to be up for any awards. A few well-known directors have tackled Bond films not for any glory, but more for the chance to get more hands-on with an iconic character they probably grew up watching on the big screen. Anyway, I thought we’d seen the last Bond film for a while, but it’s good to know he’s coming back. Hey, it DID say so at the end of the last Bond film…
