Breaking Bad Season 4 Finale: “Boom” Time For Walter White

Well, THAT was definitely a shock, but the episode title (“Face Off”) should have been a dead giveaway (ha ha) in addition to having a dual meaning. Amusingly enough, despite the disturbing imagery, I got a big laugh thanks to watching too many Warner Bros. cartoons as a kid. Walter White  (Bryan Cranston, probably set for another Emmy) finally takes care of his Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito, who might be his competition for that Emmy) problem once and for all with explosive and fairly gory results.

Like most of you watching the show, I thought for a few seconds that Gus actually survived Walt’s little surprise, but that camera move was brilliant and quite, er… revealing. Given that this was supposed to be the series finale until the show was revived for one more season, it would have been a fitting end. However, it looks as if creator Vince Gilligan and his writing team have more in store for Walt, Jesse and the rest of the crew next year. Still, with all the major villains gone thanks to Gus and now Walt, it’ll be interesting to see where Gilligan steers the show. I’m hoping to see Skyler (Anna Gunn, always perfect) and Walt get back together, but I have the feeling that that phone call from Walt at the show’s end might bode not so well for their already rocky relationship. We. Shall. See…
